WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING ABOUT KAREN AS A SPEAKER:

It has been a unique journey watching God take a former cult member, convict them by His Spirit of the reality of the emptiness in her heart, to the point of deep repentance and faith in our only hope, the Lord Jesus Christ. Karen articulates the difference in Scientology and Christianity – the works vs. the unmerited favor and grace of Almighty God. Her story is not only a testimony of a life that was changed, but of a life that every day is being conformed more into the image of God’s dear Son. - Dr. Johnny Hunt, Senior Pastor, First Baptist Church of Woodstock, GA.

Our speaker for the May Lunch Encounter event, Karen Pressley, will blow you away! I heard her speak at Kennesaw State University…she has a book coming out soon on her experience in the cult of Scientology. Her story is UNREAL. Don’t let her leave the mic without telling the audience about her ministry. - Catherine T., Second Ponce de Leon Baptist Church, Atlanta

Karen is a skillful and poised public speaker who addresses her messages with love and compassion, yet with an uncompromising commitment to Biblical truth. Her dramatic story in finding faith in Christ also makes her eminently qualified to testify to the power of prayer and the love of God. - Dr. Tal Davis, Manager, Interfaith Evangelism, North American Mission Board

Thanks so much for sharing your story with the Shiloh Association. You did an excellent job in both presentations. Our attendance more than doubled this year, due to the relevance of your topic about Scientology in the Plant City, Florida area. Your presentation, speaking, and power point was so informative and helped us to understand the beliefs and lifestyle of Scientology. I look forward to inviting you to come again and will recommend you to all of our Directors of Missions. Thanks for your excellent work. - Danny Morris, Director of Missions, Shiloh Baptist Association, Plant City, Florida

Wow! Well that does not even begin to let you know how much help you have been to me these last few weeks. I was searching my heart and all my resources when I found out my friend, who is actively involved in Scientology, was coming to visit from overseas. Over the years I have “danced” around the topic of Scientology and Christianity, without being able to reach her. This time, I was determined to be prepared. The time you spent with me preparing my way for her visit has been a blessing. You allowed me to think out loud, ask “stupid” questions, guided me in my research, steered me on my path, suggested how I handle things, encouraged me when I doubted my abilities, and prayed for us. God truly sent me a blessing when He allowed me to find you. From the bottom of my heart, thank you.- Susan M., Alabama (Note: God broke through the stronghold of her Scientologist friend, who prayed to receive Christ during that visit, and went into a church there to be baptized!)

I just happened upon a link to your story about escaping from Scientology, and I wanted to thank you for telling such a candid and brave story. I had the unfortunate experience of working for some Scientologists who run an alternative health clinic in Georgia before I moved to Virginia. During my time there I was forced to take manyScientology courses to “improve” as an employee. Since wising up and moving on, I’ve become active in the Scientology critic community. I applaud your willingness to tell your story and am happy that you found peace and happiness in a non-exploitive religion! - Amanda, Richmond, VA.

Author and speaker Karen Pressley shared her personal testimony at World of Writers, an ACM Ministry. Karen told how she came to know Christ following a chilling experience as a cult member. Listeners were enveloped in suspense as she told about the difficulties making the break. Her presentation was also a great example of the collaboration of two of ACM’s diverse ministries: World of Writers and Wings of Love. - Elizabeth Brooks, Atlanta Community Ministries, Atlanta, GA.

With the religious pluralism that is sweeping our nation, there is an overwhelming need for clear voices that clearly show the contrast between Christianity and other faiths. All roads to not lead to God; there is only one way and that is through Jesus Christ. Karen Pressley clearly shows that truth and contrasts it with other claims. Anyone who thinks that other religions are no big deal needs to hear Karen and they’ll never think that again. - Dr. Bob Reccord, (then, President, North American Mission Board)

Thanks, Karen, for your presentation at Crestview Church’s 40 Days of Purpose Kaleidoscope of Missions Fair. I pray that He will use this experience in our members that there are mission opportunities all around us! We have been inspired and motivated. Thanks for all you do to spread the good news of Christ and to help others in His name.
– Lydia Lawrence, Crestview Church, Marietta, GA.

COMMENTS FROM COLLEGE STUDENTS & PROFESSORS AFTER KAREN’S LECTURES ON SCIENTOLOGY:

Karen Pressley did a great job substituting for me in my Modern Cults graduate level class at Luther Rice. The students described her lecture as excellent. One student said it was the highlight of his graduate work in ministry. Several of the students and pastors said they want her to speak at their churches. I hope I’ll be able to use her as a guest lecturer when I teach this class again.” - Dr. Bill Gordon, Jr., Th.D., Adjunct Professor, Luther Rice Seminary, Atlanta

You were the star of the class! Your sharings are educating people and touching their lives in ways you cannot imagine. - Sociology professor Robyn Bartlett, Kennesaw State University (KSU)

Karen’s presentation on Scientology and other world religions and cults was truly fascinating; I wish we could have had more time with her. Though she said her bias was her newfound Christian faith, she spoke as a sociologist when describing her research of other religiions. She personally experienced social control at its worst in Scientology. In the past, I wouldn’t have attended a lecture that I felt did not address exactly what I believed. Now, through the study of sociology and religion, I’ve learned that our tolerance of others will improve when we become more educated about beliefs and motivations different from our own. - KSU student, Sociology 2201 class, 2007

From Karen’s presentation on deviance and religion, I learned that there are more than 2,000 different religious movements in the U.S., not including the four main world religions. Karen’s field research into religious deviance by visiting churches, temples, and meeting halls made me want to look into doing this too. Her presentation on Scientology and the lifestyle of its members made me realize how outrageous those people are. She peaked my interest so much about learning what others believe. She was the best speaker I have ever seen, I want to read her book. - KSU student, Sociology 2201 class, 2007

Karen’s talk about religion was amazing. It was incredibly interesting how Karen had to live inside the Scientology camp. I couldn’t imagine giving up everything I own to move into the middle of the desert with nothing. She had little contact with the outside world, even her family. I would never want to live in a society like the Scientology world. Her escape story was thrilling–especially the God experience she had which enabled her to leave for good. I learned how each of the religions she researched believes that they held the truth about God and how to find him, though she says truth is found in Christianity. This was very enlightening. - KSU student, Sociology 2201 class, 2007

Karen Pressley told the class about her former membership in Scientology and her conversion to Christianity. I found that the more I heard about her experiences, the more I wanted to find out. I found myself appreciating the freedoms I have and believing more of the Christian beliefs. My best friend’s dad believes in Scientology, but my friend’s parents don’t get along. It wasn’t until after Karen’s presentation that I realized that it would be hard for two people who had entirely different beliefs to get along. I really benefited from hearing her speak. - KSU student, Sociology 2201 class, 2007

Upcoming book:  Escaping Scientology: An Insider’s True Story
New plans are in the works to release this book in 2008, despite Scientology’s efforts to suppress it at New Hope Publishers and Broadman & Holman. Meanwhile, please see the “About Karen” page for a brief story on the saga of this book, or listen to the CD of this title.

CD: Escaping Scientology: An Insider’s True Story
CD#91126-1

This one-hour CD gives an inside view of the Scientology world, an abridged version of what Karen will disclose in her upcoming book, Escaping Scientolgy: An Insider’s True Story. This CD will soon be available on Amazon.com, meanwhile it can be ordered through this website.

Anyone who wants to know what it’s like behind the scenes in the Scientology world will want to hear this message that could be titled, “The Psychological Terrorism of Scientology.” While working for CSI she was subject to human rights violations and lived under the control of dictatorial leaders from the 1980s-1998. She does not share her testimony of how she escaped or how she found faith in God through Jesus Christ. She tells the story of what led her to question her commitment to Scientology, the injustices she witnessed, the psychological terrorism used by Scientology on its members and ex-members. She talks about the actions Scientology takes to silence its critics, and the many details that give the group a “cult” image. She describes the transition from “coming out of a cult” and assimilating back into society. She describes the things that healed her mind and heart and helped to restore her ability to live and function as an “ex-cultist.” She also exposes harassment from Scientology’s Chief Legal Counsel and the destructive actions taken to suppress the publication of two of her books. She found that her thinking processes had to be completely transformed, and her worldview completely re-shaped. She concludes that transformation is only possible if God is in control (Romans 12:2). $15 includes CD, tax, shipping and handling.

CD - CAN A CHRISTIAN BE A SCIENTOLOGIST?
The Battle for the Mind & Soul:
Scientology’s Pursuit of Christian Youth
CD#91127-2

This message is for anyone who wonders whether someone can be a Christian and a Scientologist at the same time. Karen debunks that idea through this talk at a youth conference of high school and college-aged people. She explains the basics of what Scientology believes and compares those beliefs to what the Bible teaches. She covers everything from creation, reincarnation, self-divinity, and death to prayer, faith and worship. This group of 200+ students was about to take a trip to Los Angeles where Karen told them they would encounter Scientologists and Scientology influences. She provides tips on how to speak to Scientologists, what not to say and how to share God’s love. She answers questions about Scientology including what they belief about silent births, about L. Ron Hubbard, about the Scientology financial empire, and their goal of becoming the dominant religion of the world. She clearly shows Scientology’s engagement in a battle for the minds and souls of everyone, especially Christian youths who are less grounded in their faith and vulnerable to false promises. $15 includes CD, tax, shipping and handling.

CD - OUT OF CRUISE CONTROL:
A Testimony to the Transforming Power of God
CD #91131-6

Karen’s most frequently requested message is her testimony–how she got involved in Scientology, her experiences as a cult member, how she got out after 16 years of entanglement, and how her life was radically transformed. In a celebrity-spirituality religion steered by the voices of Hollywood’s big names, Karen’s life was controlled by the dictates of Scientology from the early 1980’s until 1998 when she escaped for the third and final time. Though Karen was physically freed from Scientology, its teachings continued to affect her emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. Karen shares her story of how God revealed himself to her when she wasn’t looking for him. It wasn’t until Karen came to grips with whose she was, that the Scientology bondage was broken. Turning away from her old life to faith in Jesus Christ, she claimed the inheritance God had in store for her. She lost all she had—her life as a Hollywood fashion designer and music publisher with her former husband Peter producing hit songs like “On the Wings of Love”—but gained a whole new life: reunited with her family, new career, new marriage, new faith, living each day to the fullest. This talk includes a summary of Scientology basics including beliefs about God, creation, death, and reincarnation. Her story exemplifies God’s transforming power in the life of a non-believer.  $15 includes CD, tax, shipping and handling.

CD - FINDING BEAUTY IN AN UPSIDE DOWN WORLD
CD #91130-5

It’s essential to be able to find beauty and goodness in the world when it seems impossible while surrounded by bad news about war, crime, and economic problems. In this CD recorded at a women’s conference, Karen talks of how she came out of a reclusive existence in Scientology only to discover that the outside world brought tremendous challenge as she re-adapted to her new life “outside.” She shares her testimony of finding an authentic relationship with God and how she could only discover who she really was by discovering whose she was. It was the beauty of God’s love and the new life he gave her that enabled her to co-author the book with Norma Day, Seven Secrets to Timeless Beauty (Harvest House, 2005). She also covers:
> How you respond to this tumultuous world depends on a vertical relationship with God
> Discovering whose you are: the pre-requisite to knowing your identity of who you are
> Don’t buy it: Dealing with church-imposed stigmas on women
> A woman’s claim to her spiritual inheritance: discussion of the 5th secret in Seven Secrets to Timeless Beauty (book available below) $15 includes CD, tax, shipping and handling.

CD - GUARDIANS OF LIFE:
Protect Your Loved Ones from the Lure of False Religions
CD#91129-4

Mothers, grandmothers, wives, sisters—as guardians of life, you all have loved ones whom you desire to protect from false religions that attempt to lure your children, spouse, and friends away from faith in Jesus Christ. Scientology is busy pumping out their messages through the voices of celebrities who influence your loved ones through television and other media. Don’t assume your family or friends won’t be influenced by Scientology’s messages. Inform yourself so you can provide true information and guard your loved ones from Scientology’s deception. In this CD, Karen Pressley is speaking at a women’s retreat where she shares her testimony about escaping Scientology in 1998 and finding faith in Jesus Christ. She tells the basics of Scientology, how they promote discovery of one’s self-divinity (an anti-Christian teaching), and their plan to make this a Scientology world. $15 includes CD, tax, shipping and handling.

CD - Living Like There’s No Tomorrow: Overcoming Fear
(#CD0205)

Karen recorded this talk at a women’s conference Oct. 5, 2005 shortly after Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans and other Gulf Coast communities. She addresses issues surrounding fear of natural disasters and fear of tragedies in life. She shares personal stories of dealing with severe trauma in her own life when she finally disentangled herself from 16 years of entrapment in the Church of Scientology, and suffered the loss of her husband of 20 years and everything she had. Her compelling story tells how she escaped, coped with loss, came to faith in God, and started life all over again through the support of God’s love and power of the Holy Spirit. She closes with life lessons that bring hope and encouragement.  $15 includes CD, tax, shipping and handling.

CD - CAPTIVITY IN SCIENTOLOGY:
Discovering God’s Plan for Me
CD #91128-3

On Sept. 11, 2006 Karen spoke at a church service when many hearts were focused on the memory of Sept. 11, 2001 and how the tragedy America experienced has continued to impact our lives. Karen shares her testimony of escaping Scientology and losing everything she had in the her journey of coming to understand why horrendous trials happened in her life, in order for her to become the woman that God planned for her to be. $15 includes CD, tax, shipping and handling.

Karen answers questions about what Scientology believes and her experiences working for the International Management of the Church of Scientology.  Ask for Tape #216, “Chasing After the Wind: An Interview with an Ex-Scientologist” by Tal Davis and Karen Schless Pressley.  This CD is available only through EMNR.

EX-SCIENTOLOGY KIDS
This site was created by three young women who were raised by staff (Sea Org members) as Scientology kids and who are now disconnected from their parents and out of Scientology.  And Scientology swears they don’t practice disconnection!  Watch the ABC nightline interview of Jenna Miscavige Hill exposing her nightmarish childhood experiences in Scientology.
(Personal note:  One of the “ex-Scientology kids” is Kendra Wiseman, the daughter of Bruce Wiseman, whose parents disconnected from her because she refused to stop communicating with ex-Scientologists online. She left the U.S. and now lives in Beijing, has married, and moved on with her life. Her father, Bruce Wiseman, and his partner Kevin Burke, (both upper-level Scientologists) run Wiseman & Burke, a Scientology accounting firm in Glendale, CA that managed my (former) husband’s & my business affairs for nearly 10 years. Wiseman & Burke’s organization was responsible for our loss of $10,000 in investments to a bogus Scientology investment created by Scientology members who belonged to “WISE” (World Institute for Scientology Enterprises).

HIGHLIGHTED SITES AND ARTICLES:
Video, “Scientology and Crimes Against Humanity” explores how Scientology rails against the very things they perpetrate (May 13, 2008).  Features statements from several former Scientology Sea Org members: Jenna Miscavige Hill, Stacy Young, Jesse Prince, Hana Whitfield, Astra Woodcraft.

“Scientology’s Tax Exemption, Inurement, and Tom Cruise”
- Article posted May 10, 2008 by Scott Pilutik. He gives hard evidence of Scientology’s illegal e-meter policy; Explores Scientology’s questionable tax-exemption and provides basic criteria for revocation.

ALT.RELIGION.SCIENTOLOGY
This site posts an extensive collection of links to sites carrying first-person stories by or accounts of experiences within Scientology. These are links that CofS will not provide you in their posts. You can find more research at these sites about the other side of Scientology than in their whole collection of materials and years spent working for the organization. The news we were encouraged to read and hear as Scientologists, the people we were told to sever communication with, the lies behind the information we were fed that never quite sat right in out minds, is here for inspection.

Perspectives About Cults & New Religious Movements

http://people.howstuffworks.com/cult.htm
In this article from “How Stuff Works” by Julia Layton, she says that when most of us hear the word “cult,” we see a bunch of brainwashed zombies feeding their children cyanide-laced fruit drink, mass murders, a burning compound in Waco, Texas — it’s not a pretty picture. But is it a true picture? What exactly is a “cult,” and how is it different from a “religion”? Are all cults dangerous? Are people who join destructive cults mentally disturbed, or are all of us equally susceptible? In this article, we’ll separate fact from propaganda and learn what a cult actually is, what practices characterize a destructive cult and look at some of the more notable cult incidents in recent history.

The Crown Prosecution Service ruled the word was neither “abusive or insulting” to the church and no further action would be taken against the boy. The unnamed 16-year-old was handed a court summons by City of London police for refusing to put down a placard saying “Scientology is not a religion, it is a dangerous cult” during a peaceful protest outside the church’s headquarters near St Paul’s Cathedral earlier this month.

About Wings of Love Ministries

Thanks for visiting the Wings of Love Ministries page

Karen founded Wings of Love Ministries in 2002 to educate individuals and groups on Scientology and provide a Christian perspective through speaking engagements and writing; to assist individuals dealing with Scientology-related issues; and to minister prayer and God’s Word to families influenced by cults. Our mission statement is, Speaking and writing about the truth of God’s Word to expand the kingdom of Jesus Christ.

Wings of Love Ministries is also one of 30+ ministries under the umbrella of Atlanta Community Ministries who spread God’s love throughout Atlanta and beyond with the theme, “out of our seats and into the streets.” ACM has been supportive of Wings of Love Ministries in many ways including prayer, ministry assistance, guidance, and networking, to name a few! For information about ACM, visit their website at www.atlantacommunityministries.com.

Wings of Love Ministries was awarded a Christian Discipleship Award in 2005 by Gospel Connection Magazine, Atlanta.

Karen served as a volunteer missionary for the North American Mission Board (NAMB) for nearly five years (2002-2007) after working in their Evangelism team for two years (2000-2002). NAMB has featured Karen in their Missionary Spotlight, promotes her for speaking engagements, and continues to host her information on the Apologetics/Interfaith Evangelism website at www.4truth.net. Karen became certified in Women’s Ministry through the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary in 2002. Karen and her husband Greg are members of the First Baptist Church of Woodstock.

Karen’s life now soars on new wings of love (Isaiah 40:31) through her marriage to Gregory, her ministry, and career as a professional communicator. Karen lives in passionate pursuit of her mission statement through God-honoring opportunities as a speaker and writer. As a national speaker, God’s faithfulness to love, protect, provide and empower is the central theme of Karen’s messages.

A highlight of Karen’s testimony is her mother’s experience, realizing that she had known about God her entire life (while a Catholic) but never had a personal relationship with or commitment to faith in Him. The decision she made to follow Christ at age 74 was a defining moment for her that opened up a whole new life of faith and discovery of the power of prayer. Karen believes it was her mother’s newfound faith in prayer in 1997, and her prayers for Karen, that led to Karen’s deliverance from Scientology within one year in 1998.

While a Scientologist, Karen had been directed several times to “disconnect” from her mother because her mother disagreed with Scientology and thought it was a cult. Had Karen done that, what would have happened after she left Scientology? Like many other Scientologists, Karen was urged to disconnect not only from her mother but from other relatives who voiced criticism of Scientology. Instead, she was able to reunite with her mother and family after nearly 20 years apart, which ended the “prodigal daughter” chapter of her life.

Karen shares a passionate story of the power of prayer and acquiring the seemingly impossible ability to forgive and be forgiven.

KAREN DESIRES TO REACH YOUTH

Students of all ages are susceptible to the influence of cults and their use of persuasive communication tactics to lure Christians away from their faith.

Karen’s messages enlighten listeners about the truth about what Scientology believes, about discernment and guarding one’s heart, and making choices that align with God’s purpose for their lives. Karen’s presentations enable youth to see how they can make a difference in the world through the power of prayer, especially in the lives of their favorite television and movie stars.

Karen has spoken at several youth conferences and would like to do more. Her experiences in leading talks with youth include:

Mount Paran North Church of God, The Gathering, Marietta, GA - January 6, 2008

Kennesaw State University, Sociology classes; guest speaker on Scientology and how people pursue knowledge of God through world religions and cults - November 2007

Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, St. Louis, MS - 2006 and 2008

Johnson Ferry Baptist Church, Atlanta, GA - Student Ministry (300+) - May 21, 2006

Piedmont Baptist Church Youth Ministry, Marietta, GA - 2006

Baptist Seminaries and Colleges Collegiate Week, Glorietta, New Mexico - July, 2005

Luther Rice Seminary, World Religions and Cults Class (Professor Bill Gordon); online class visiting speaker, 2005

Holston Baptist Association, What People Believe Youth Conference, Ridgecrest, NC - 2005

WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING:

“It has been a unique journey watching God take a former cult member, convict them by His Spirit of the reality of the emptiness in her heart, to the point of deep repentance and faith in our only hope, the Lord Jesus Christ. Karen articulates the difference in Scientology and Christianity – the works vs. the unmerited favor and grace of Almighty God. Her story is not only a testimony of a life that was changed, but of a life that every day is being conformed more into the image of God’s dear Son.” - Dr. Johnny Hunt, Senior Pastor, First Baptist Church of Woodstock, GA.

“Karen is a skillful and poised public speaker who addresses her messages with love and compassion, yet with an uncompromising commitment to Biblical truth. Her dramatic story in finding faith in Christ also makes her eminently qualified to testify to the power of prayer and the love of God.” - Dr. Tal Davis, Manager, Interfaith Evangelism, North American Mission Board

You can help be a change agent through this ministry!
Karen provides many hours per month helping individuals who contact her via email, letters and phone, asking for assistance with Scientology-related matters. This includes parents with a child in Scientology, marriages troubled by one spouse involved in Scientology and the other is not; friends and family troubled about loved ones in Scientology; people requesting prayer over issues such as the above; organizations requesting articles about Scientology, and much more. She gives her time to help others cope with these troublesome matters.
