Writing Specializations
When we get started on a writing project, plan to spend a good bit of time with me in interviews where I will gain your perspective on the topic before I start the comprehensive research needed to move ahead. Or, you may want me to write for you on topics within my realm of subject matter expertise: academic, technical, professional, and new media writing; communication studies; and public relations. I'm also interested in religious studies, particularly cultic studies, and have published articles on those topics, as well as articles on women's professional development, home design, home construction, and real estate. I look forward to working with you, whatever the topic.

AUTHOR SERVICES

BOOK PROPOSALS
My book proposals are based on contemporary formats and standards used by literary agents for submission to publishing houses. You can use my book proposals to land yourself a literary agent or to pitch directly to publishers.

I prepare book proposals as a writer or as an editor (please see Editorial Services page). I work with you, the author, in the capacity you need to develop, format, write, and/or edit your proposal.  Your book proposal will be produced in one fluid document that generally includes:

  1. a one-pager that pitches a summary of your book in concise, impactful text for
  2. a literary agent’s or an acquisition editor’s quick read
  3. a two-page summary of your book
  4. table of contents for the proposal (including page numbers for your chapters)
  5. author profile
  6. author’s plan to market the book
  7. concise marketing plan
  8. (alternate) extended marketing analysis (as applicable)
  9. annotated chapter summaries
  10. legal discussion (as applicable)
  11. submittable chapters (two minimum, written by you. I can also write or edit the chapters. See writing services below as well as editorial services).

Rates are determined by your needs. Average book proposals range from $1,500 to $3,500 (Additional fees may apply if you want me to write or edit your chapters).

GHOSTWRITING
You may have a story to tell or a manuscript to unfold, but don’t have the time, patience, or skill to write it. As a ghostwriter, I have written non-fiction book manuscripts, book proposals, speeches, volumes of executive correspondence, and developed a 55-page fiction treatment into a 600-page manuscript. I'm the ghostwriter and thus do not share in the publishing credits. Your name appears in the byline.

FEES: Your flat fee to me covers the writing, and I do not share in royalties. Rates are based on a per-project basis. I invite your call.

CO-WRITING
I am a published co-writer of literary non-fiction and academic journal articles. You may have an idea and need a co-writer to contribute supporting research and help you develop the text. We can negotiate on my exact role in the writing process whether I contribute research or original writing; thus, we'll negotiate on my fee and/or percentage of royalties (as applicable). This depends on whether we share the byline as co-authors, or you are listed as the author and I am listed as a “with” author.  Let’s talk.

TECHNICAL COMMUNICATION WRITING

Good technical writing reflects the importance of clearly communicating information to your stakeholders, such as your customers, staff, investors, or other audiences, through accurate documentation. I interpret research, reports, and other materials to write technical documents and consumer-level articles.  I will work with you to analyze your audience and purpose.  My objective is always accuracy, completeness, clarity, and conciseness. I work with various style guides including MLA, APA, Chicago, and MSTP. My technical writing services include:

Consumer articles (for newsletters, magazines, booklets)

Manuals, instructions, descriptions, definitions

Web copy

White papers and other technical articles

Collaborative digital applications (blogs, wikis, multimodal compositions)

Visual rhetoric
I develop your technical concepts into diagrams, charts, or other visual representations. For example, you’re writing a research paper and need a diagram or flow chart to more clearly illustrate your idea.

RATES: My technical communication rates are quoted on an hourly or per-project basis, depending on the nature and length of the writing project,  your needs, and deadlines.

PROFESSIONAL COMMUNICATION WRITING

BUSINESS, PUBLIC RELATIONS, MEDIA

I write and edit to inform and persuade your consumers and to convey your expertise in your field. Writing priorities include establishing the document’s message and organization in language and tone suitable to your customer. My specializations include:

Blogs

Brochures and booklets

Executive correspondence (persuasive directives, letters, memos, emails)

Executive summaries and recommendation reports

Feature stories

Newsletters, print or digital formats

Press releases

Profiles and biographies, individual or company

RATES: Rates are quoted on an hourly or per-project basis, depending on the writing project,  your needs, and deadlines.

RATES & QUOTES

I note my rates under each writing category. As noted above, some writing requires a flat fee or is by the hour, other writing is negotiable depending on royalties, my role, etc. Rates range from $15 - $30 per hour, depending on the work needed. Prices for specialized materials with complex nomenclature or exceptionally difficult texts can be higher. I also quote on a per project basis. I'd be glad to clarify this when you contact me.
